Buttons, Banners, and Designs

As an beginner  blogger, I am still sticking with Blogger because I am used to it and mainly I just do not want to change quite yet.

But Blogger has quite a bit limitations on blog design, so I have to dig into the html coding!!!! YEA, not my cup of tea really, but I want my blog to look pretty so I have designed a few buttons, banners and such.

I am sharing what I have designed and see if you all have ideas on what else to improve on.

* A little Tip*

If you do add buttons and banners to your Blogger blog like I do, it's better to upload your images to Blogger and link them instead of using a third party image hosting site because Blogger loads images that are uploaded to Blogger much faster than third party sites.

Cotton Pleated Scarf

Mother's Day is fast approaching, are any of you stuck on what to get for your mom like I am?  I always wait till the last minute to think of something to make my mom because of birthdays and Easter being around the same time.  I said "make", yes I make most of my gifts these days, I think it's more personal and the receiver knows I put alot of thought and sweat into the gifts.  But I do buy gifts that I cannot make (OK I am pretty smart with electronics  but I am not smart enough to MAKE an iPad lol)

A couple of years ago, I made my mom a series of gifts geared toward gardening using 2 yards of Garden Print fabric.  If you want to check them out:
  1. Garden Gloves
  2. Garden Apron
  3. Hand Bag

Last year, her Mother's day gifts were also house warming gifts because my parents came to visit me from Hong Kong in May, and they had bought a vacation home close to me, so I made her a series of kitchen accessories using 2 yards of Fruits Print Fabric.  You can check it out HERE.

Now, this year.... since they won't be coming to visiting me, I am wrecking my brain trying to think of something useful for her, and she is a tough one to please (don't they say our mothers are our toughest critics?)

I know that she has been trying to stay healthy and eat organic, wears only natural fibers and grow organic veggies.  So I know the first thing she needs is a scarf, a cotton one, because all her other ones are non-cotton, and she will throw them out.

I have some cotton knit fabric, and some Dotted Swiss Fabric left over from other projects and I know it will be prefect for this scarf that I am making for mom.

Ok, let's see what it looks like finished.

Let's see how I made it.

Second Liebster Award

Not too long ago, I was nominated for the Liebster Award for the first time, and a second nomination came one month later.  I thought about not accepting it because I had received one shortly before, but my nominator had a good point "An actor receiving two Oscars will not only accept one"  Wow, good analogy.  Don't you think?

So I am accepting this award simply because my lovely Nominator deserves my recognition and the 11 bloggers that I get to nominate deserve their award.

Mamma Nene over at Serger Pepper nominated me and also told me that I was a "no-reply" blogger.  I had no idea for all these 3 years of blogging that others don't see my email!

Thank you so much!!!!!!!

Upcycled Denim First Aid Case #2

Since my first First Aid Case was such a success, I decided to make a few more.  This is a second one that I tackled, tweaking it a bit.

Let's see what it looks like finished

Now onto the tutorial

Merging Blogs in Blogger

When I started blogging with Blogger, I started several blogs, each with a different focus, but as my blogs grew, I have too many blogs to maintain with my limited time (24 hours in a day isn't enough for the modern day women, right?!)

So I decided to merge blogs.  Repurpose DIY is one of my other blogs about repurposing household items, and since there aren't too many posts in that blog yet, it should be easy to merge them and not affect traffic too much.

Are you also thinking about merging blogs in Blogger? If so, I have for you a very easy tutorial to how to do it.

  1. Merge 2 or more blogs into one Blogger blog
    • To merge two or more blogs into one in Blogger and have the old blogs redirected to the new blog, and all the posts redirected to their new url, this tutorial is super easy and it works!
    • Click Here to learn how to do it.
  2. Import/Export in Blogger tutorial
    • Click Here for a tutorial on how to use the Import/Export function in Blogger
  3. Creating Tabs with Labels
    • After you have merged your blogs, you might want to create Tabs to categorize and organize your imported posts in the new blog.
    • Click Here for easy instructions.

Hope you find this post useful.  I am not very savvy in web design, so I spend hours, days, and weeks researching online to tweak Blogger, and I intend to share what I have learned and found!

Mini Nail Kit turned Gum Case

I found a cute nail kit at Target yesterday, took the content out to put in a DIY first aid kit that I made for a friend [see the post here on how to make one].  Then I was left with the case and I thought to myself "it is too cute to throw away, but what can I put in it?"  oh i got it!

So this is the pretty case of the nail kit!

took the content out, left with that little foam thingy that held the nail accessories

using pliers, i took out that foam piece

Filled it with gum!!!!

Now I have a very pretty gum case for my purse! YAY

Upcycled Denim First-Aid Case

After making the first two gifts for my friend, I have one more gift that I wanted to make (since I still have some more of that pretty fabric left)

If you want to check out the first two gifts, here are the links:

Ok, let's see what this little project looks like!

Time to check out how I made this

Hello Friends, my humble little blog just passed the 10,000 views mark this week!

I appreciate ALL of you who visited and commented!

In honor of this occasion, I'd thought I should feature a few sites that referred the most traffic to my blog.

Upcycled Denim Receipts Pocket

After the first gift that I made for my dear friend's birthday, I made a second gift  - a receipts pocket for her 3-ring binder that she uses to do her books with.

I saw a similar project over at Bolt Neighborhood, but it is a much smaller size and made differently, so I altered it a bit to fit my needs.

Let's see what it looks like finished

Let's see how I made it.

Upcycled Military Uniform Tote {Part 2}

Now that our renovation has slowed, I finally have a bit of time to do other things.  First was to get back into blogging because I have neglected my blog, but I have finally (sorta) gotten my blog the way I wanted, so now it's back to sewing.

I have decided to finish one of my (many) WIPs (work in progress), I chose the Upcycled Military Uniform Tote (Read Part 1  here) that I started a few months ago.

Part 2 will be about tote closure, handles, and putting it all together.

Let's take a look at the finished product!!!!

Now Let's see how I finished it.
